Timo Jaakkola, an experienced professional in maintenance and service, retired five years ago from his role as a subcontractor buyer. However, he didn’t step away from the worklife; instead, he found a new career path through Seasons. Currently, Timo works on a part-time contract and has the opportunity to travel for international projects.

Timo’s path with Seasons crossed years before the perfect job was found. “After retiring, I submitted an open application to Seasons because I was considering the possibility of working after retirement,” says Timo. Timo has been working for three years in start-up company that develops an innovative robot for the gardening industry. “The founder had the vision that bumblebees will eventually run out, and genetically modified insects cannot be exported everywhere,” he explains. Timo joined the project in its early stages and was involved in testing the robot. By chance, a Finnish company became the first organization to start testing this robot, and a local maintenance representative was needed.

Timo shares that his employment through Seasons has been very smooth. “I am on Seasons’ payroll when the client is an international company. Since they aren’t familiar with Finnish labor law, Seasons handles all of that.” He also appreciates that Seasons takes care of practical matters like overseas allowances, saving time for all parties. “I haven’t had to deal directly with the client company; Seasons handles everything for me.”

Working on retirement improving life quality

Although Timo is technically retired, he hasn’t stepped away from working life. “Social interaction has always been important to me. Work brings meaning to my life and keeps me active,” he reflects. Retirement doesn’t have to mean the end of work, and Timo has found a balance by working as much as he wants.

Timo emphasizes that as long as his health allows, he still has a lot to give to the working world. “Openness and a positive attitude have helped me get opportunities, and I’ve never experienced age discrimination. On the contrary, experience is highly valued,” Timo says.
